Problems with Tax and Shipping Calculations

Post by berrico » Sep 03, 2009 7:32 am

ok, im having sort of the same problems w/ this new upgrade.
On the confirm template Image i have some trouble going on.
there is some XX's that are showing up. Don't know what that is. This template has not been edited. - I even uploaded this template again to make sure.
When I try to change the shipping drop down menu to another choice and hit recalculate, it shows a script error at the bottom of the status bar and it does not recalculate in the total. Just doesn't do anything. Also, it does not show the "words" shipping in that column. No seperate field for shipping. And last but not least, what's the story w/ the tax? I did it right in the calculations template Image. This is really driving me crazy. This is a verrrrrry simple cart and it should whiz right into place. we have about 25-30 products. accepting only CC and will process the orders by hand, and three choices for shipping - flat fees. Definitely not complicated. Please help. (and the manual... I've followed it a million times).

ALSO WHERE IS THE SHIPPING TO: INFO (LIKE BILL TO - IS THERE, BUT NOT SHIP TO)

The 'XX' appears to be the default entry in the States pull-down menu. I'll look into seeing why it's displayed there.

The tax problem is because you've entered the percent sign in the calc box. Instead of 8.5%, enter .085.

Just out of curiosity, why are you using a calc type of 'straight' on the shipping calcs?

I'm still looking into the other things you listed.

The state, i did take out all except united states listing. got rid of all countries.
i will try the percent and see how that goes.

also, we just want to offer 3 types of shipping the cust can choose from. ups ground, 5.95, or blue,14.95 or red, 24.95

So the shipping should look like this?
NY,.085
FL,.065
CA,.070

Don't forget to keep the commas.

as it is written above, that's how it is. is there another comma supposed to be in there?

Try your shipping calcs this way:

Code: Select all

Calc Type: _field
Cross Type: _subtotal
By Field: Ecom_ShipTo_Postal_StateProv
as it is written above, that's how it is. is there another comma supposed to be in there?
The tax calc should look like this:

Code: Select all

NY,8.5%
FL,6.5%
CA,7%

You need to check the "Use Shipping Form" box on the Template Options page.

copied and pasted ur tax info (same as I had) still no tax

shipping - now my drop down choice on the confirm page shows zero for each choice whereas, before it had the price. now, not shipping in total.

Also, no shipping field in the total column. (that was never there.)

I logged into your site and see that you still haven't checked the "Use Shipping Form" box.

Also you have this code in the footer section:

Code: Select all

<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Language" content="en-us">
</head>
Where did that come from? That should not be there.

Question: how did you enter the calcs in the new cart? Did you enter them by hand, did you import them using the admin section, or did you use the data files from the old install?

ok, the script you saw, was edited w/ frontpage, i placed the code in there to get rid of the "surfshop" message at the bottom and just put our email address in. Frontpage prob added that extra stuff.

the shipping calc, i did everything by hand.

I will check off the ship form.

ok, ship form checked, i do see it on the confirm page, but the xx's are still there and no mailing address shows up.

O.K. I'm sure then that you deleted the calcs that came with the script and created new ones for your store.

I don't have an answer to this one yet.

BTW, your original shipping calcs were correct. Change them back to '_straight' like you had them before. Sorry for the confusion. I was thinking of something else.

I got the shipping and the whole form corrected. it shows up and calculates perfect.

Still prob w/ tax. weird.

I entered it your way before, and got 0.00 in the tax field - i modified it a bit with the following:
NY,8.25
FL,6.50
CA,7.0

and on a $400 subtotal, it's giving me $8.25 tax (which i am assuming is cause i have ny,8.25 in the field)

FIXED - WOO HOO
IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE ENTERED LIKE THIS
NY,%8.25
FL,%6.50
CA,%7.0

YOU SHOULD HIRE ME ;)

THE TAX IS NOT - I REPEAT - NOT SHOWING ON THE EMAIL THAT GOES TO THE ADMINISTRATOR. IT IS ON THE ONE THAT GOES TO THE CUSTOMER. CAN YOU TELL ME AN EASY WAY TO FIX THIS?

Look at both e-mails in the admin. Since one works and the other doesn't, the one is probably missing the tax tag.
